SSC JHT 2026 - Overview
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) holds the Combined Hindi Translators Examination (CHT) to fill translator posts in different ministries, departments and offices of the Central Government. Most aspirants call it the SSC Junior Hindi Translator (JHT) exam. Through the 2026 notice, SSC is recruiting for Junior Hindi Translator (JHT), Junior Translation Officer (JTO), Junior Translator (JT), Senior Hindi Translator (SHT), Senior Translator (ST) and Senior Translation Officer (STO) posts.
The online application window was open from 23 April 2026 to 14 May 2026 and has now closed. On 09 July 2026 SSC released an updated tentative vacancy list, taking the total number of posts to 303. Candidates who have already applied should now wait for the Paper-I admit card, as the exam is planned for August-September 2026.

Please note: when the notice first came out on 23 April 2026, only 84 tentative posts were shown. SSC later collected more vacancies from the user departments and revised the total to 303. Some listings still show 156, but that number is only the Unreserved (UR) share, not the full total.

SSC JHT 2026 Eligibility
Age limit: 18 to 30 years as on 01 August 2026. This means the candidate must be born not before 02 August 1996 and not later than 01 August 2008. Candidates from reserved categories and other eligible groups get relaxation in the upper age limit as per Central Government rules.
Educational qualification (as on 01 August 2026): The candidate must hold a Master's degree from a recognised university, in one of these ways:
- Master's degree in Hindi, with English as a compulsory or elective subject (or as the medium) at the degree level; or
- Master's degree in English, with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject (or as the medium) at the degree level; or
- Master's degree in any other subject, with Hindi or English as the medium and the other language as a compulsory or elective subject at the degree level.
Along with the Master's degree, the candidate needs a recognised diploma or certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa, OR two years of translation experience (three years for the Senior posts) in a Central or State Government office, including a Government of India undertaking.
SSC JHT 2026 Selection Process
The selection is done through a two-stage written exam followed by document checking:

Paper-I has only objective, multiple-choice questions and there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are shortlisted category-wise on the basis of Paper-I marks to sit for Paper-II. Final selection is based on the combined performance, followed by Document Verification (DV) done by the user department. There is no interview.
Application Fee (in short)
The application fee is Rs. 100 for General, OBC and EWS candidates. All women candidates, and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and eligible Ex-Servicemen, are exempted from the fee.
