Eligibility (Age and Qualification)
Nationality: You must be a citizen of India, or fall under the categories accepted by the Government of India as stated in the official notice.
Qualification: You need a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.E. or B.Tech) in the relevant stream from a recognised university or institute. Final-year engineering students may also apply, provided they can produce their degree and complete all backlogs before joining the course. For the special non-technical widow seat, a graduate degree in any stream is accepted.
Age limit: 20 to 27 years as on 1 April 2027. In simple terms, you should be born between 1 April 2000 and 31 March 2007 (both dates included). For widows of defence personnel, the upper age limit is relaxed up to 35 years. Marital status and other conditions are as given in the official notice.
Pay Scale and Salary
Selected women are commissioned as officers in the rank of Lieutenant. A Lieutenant is paid on Defence Pay Matrix Level 10, with basic pay from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,77,500 per month, plus Military Service Pay (MSP) of Rs 15,500 per month, along with Dearness Allowance and other allowances as per rules. Selection Process
There is no written examination in this entry. The selection runs in these steps:
- Shortlisting on academic merit: The Army draws a cut-off on your engineering marks (aggregate up to the latest completed semester). Only shortlisted candidates are called for the interview.
- SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates attend a five-day Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview at an allotted Selection Centre. It checks officer-like qualities through psychological tests, group tasks and a personal interview.
- Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by the SSB go through a medical test by a military medical board.
- Merit List and Joining: A final merit list is drawn from those who clear the SSB and are found medically fit, against the available vacancies. Selected women join officer training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.
