Selection Process
Selection is done in stages. First the written exam, then the physical test.
- Preliminary Exam: One objective paper of 200 marks with 100 questions, of 2 hours. It covers General Knowledge and current affairs. A candidate scoring below 30% is not called for the Main Exam. On the basis of prelims merit, candidates equal to 20 times the vacancies are shortlisted, category-wise.
- Main Exam: Two objective papers.
- Paper 1 — General Hindi: 200 marks, 100 questions, 2 hours. This paper is only qualifying (minimum 30%); its marks are not added to the final merit.
- Paper 2 — General Studies: 200 marks, 100 questions, 2 hours. It covers General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Maths and Mental Ability. This paper decides the merit.
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Running, high jump, long jump and shot put, as per the standards given above.
- Final Merit and Verification: The final merit list is based on the Main Exam Paper 2 score and the PET result, followed by document and medical checks.
Note on marking: there is a negative marking of 0.2 mark for each wrong answer in both the prelims and the mains. When the exam is held in more than one shift, marks are normalised using the Equi-Percentile method.
Application Fee
The application fee is a flat Rs 100 for candidates of every category — General, EWS, EBC, BC, SC, ST, women and third-gender applicants all pay the same Rs 100. The fee is paid online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI. Any bank or gateway charge is borne by the candidate. The fee is not refundable once the payment is successful.
