CSIR UGC NET June 2026 Exam City Intimation - Overview
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the CSIR UGC NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test). This test decides who is eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for the post of Assistant Professor (Lectureship) in science subjects. For the June 2026 session, the NTA has now released the Exam City Intimation Slip. This slip tells you, in advance, the city where your exam centre will be, so you can plan your travel and stay early.
The CSIR UGC NET June 2026 exam will be held on 17 and 18 July 2026 in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. Candidates who applied for this session can check their exam city now using the official login link given in the Important Links table above.
What is the Exam City Intimation Slip?
The Exam City Intimation Slip is NOT the admit card. It only shows the name of your exam city. The NTA shares it a few days before the admit card so that outstation candidates get enough time to arrange travel and stay. The actual admit card, which carries your full centre address, reporting time and exam-day rules, is released later - usually two to three days before the exam. Keep checking the official website for the admit card link.
CSIR NET June 2026 Subjects
The CSIR UGC NET June 2026 is held for five science subjects. Your exam will be based on the subject you applied for:
| # | Subject |
|---|---|
| 1 | Chemical Sciences |
| 2 | Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences |
| 3 | Life Sciences |
| 4 | Mathematical Sciences |
| 5 | Physical Sciences |
Eligibility (Quick Look)
To appear in CSIR UGC NET, a candidate must hold a Master's degree such as M.Sc or an equivalent degree in a science subject. General, Unreserved and EWS (Economically Weaker Section) candidates need at least 55% marks, while OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PwD (Persons with Disability) and Third-gender candidates need at least 50% marks. The official notice also has a separate route for candidates who hold a 4-year or 8-semester bachelor's degree with at least 75% marks - but that route is valid only for the research fellowship (JRF), not for the Assistant Professor category. Final-year students can apply on a provisional basis. For the exact eligibility rules, read the official notification linked in the Important Links table above.
Age Limit
The upper age limit applies only to the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). For JRF, the maximum age is 30 years as on the date fixed in the notification, and age relaxation is given to reserved categories and women as per government rules. For the Assistant Professor (Lectureship) category, there is NO upper age limit.
Exam Pattern (In Short)
The CSIR UGC NET is a single-paper Computer Based Test (CBT) with objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The paper is divided into three parts - Part A (general aptitude), Part B and Part C (subject-based). There is negative marking for wrong answers. For the exact number of questions, total marks and time duration, please read the official notification linked above.
