RRB Group D Level-1 Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB) ran the Group D Level-1 recruitment for the year 2026 under Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) number 09/2025. In total, 22,195 Level-1 posts are being filled across the different zones of the Indian Railways. These are entry-level railway jobs open to Class 10 (10th) pass and ITI-holding candidates. Online registration ran from 31 January 2026 to the extended last date of 9 March 2026. The online application window is now closed, so no new form can be submitted. Candidates who applied can check their application status and get ready for the first Computer Based Test (CBT-I).

Current Stage: Applications Closed, CBT-I in August 2026

Online applications for this recruitment are over. The RRB has released the CBT-I exam schedule, so the next step for registered candidates is to check their application status and then wait for the exam city and admit card details. The first Computer Based Test (CBT-I) is scheduled between 3 and 21 August 2026. Admit cards are usually released a few days before the exam through the official candidate login.

Vacancy Details

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

A candidate must have passed Class 10 (10th / Matriculation) from a recognised board. In place of Class 10, a candidate can also apply with an ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certificate from an institution recognised by the NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) or the SCVT (State Council for Vocational Training), or with a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by the NCVT.

Age Limit (as on 1 January 2026)

The minimum age was 18 years and the maximum age was 33 years as on 1 January 2026. Upper age relaxation is given to reserved categories such as OBC (Other Backward Classes), SC (Scheduled Caste) and ST (Scheduled Tribe), and to other eligible groups, as per railway rules. Application Fee and Refund

The application fee was paid online during form filling. The exact fee for each category is shown in the Application Fee box above. A large part of this fee is refunded to the candidate's bank account after the candidate actually appears in the first Computer Based Test (CBT-I), so registered candidates should keep their bank details correct in the form.

Salary

The Group D Level-1 posts are paid at the Level-1 pay of the government pay matrix, along with the usual allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Transport Allowance. Selection Process

The selection is done in the following stages:

1. Computer Based Test (CBT-I) - the first online objective-type test.
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) - a running and weight-lifting test to check physical fitness.
3. Document Verification (DV) - checking of your original certificates.
4. Medical Examination - a medical fitness check as per railway medical standards.

The first Computer Based Test (CBT-I) is scheduled between 3 and 21 August 2026. Admit cards will be released before the exam.

Online applications are closed. The steps below are only a record of how the application was done through the official RRB portal, for candidates who want to understand the process:

1. Open the official RRB online application portal.
2. Register once with an active mobile number and email ID to create a login.
3. Fill the application form with personal, education and category details.
4. Upload the photo and signature in the size and format asked in the form.
5. Pay the application fee online.
6. Submit the form and save or print a copy for record.

The last date to apply online was 9 March 2026 (extended), the last date to pay the fee was 11 March 2026, and the form correction window was open from 12 to 21 March 2026. All of these dates are now over.
