Eligibility - Who Can Apply
Educational Qualification
You must hold a Bachelor's degree (graduation) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university, completed on or before the cut-off date of 1 August 2025. Any stream is allowed - Arts, Science, Commerce or others.
Age Limit (as on 1 August 2025)
The minimum age is 20 years for everyone. The maximum age changes by category and gender, as shown below.

Extra age relaxation: serving Bihar Government employees who have finished at least three years of regular service get up to 5 years relaxation. Ex-servicemen get relaxation of 3 years plus their period of defence service, as long as their actual age does not cross 57 years on the cut-off date. Your date of birth is taken from your Class 10 (Matric) certificate.
Physical Standards
No marks are given for physical standards - they are only a qualifying check during the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Candidates who do not meet the set standard are marked failed.

For men, a minimum chest expansion of 5 cm is required. Chest is not measured for women.
Salary and Pay Scale
The post of Police Sub-Inspector (General Closed Cadre) carries Pay Level-6 as per the Bihar pay matrix. This is the official pay level stated in the notice. Selection Process
Selection has two written stages followed by a physical test. You must clear each stage to move ahead.
Stage 1 - Preliminary Exam
The Preliminary (Prelims) exam is objective and multiple-choice. It has one paper of 200 marks with 100 questions and a time of 2 hours. Each correct answer gives 2 marks. Questions cover English, General Knowledge, Hindi language, Reasoning and Current Affairs. You must score at least 30 percent to be considered further. Candidates up to 10 times the number of vacancies (category-wise, on merit) are shortlisted for the Main exam. This is only a screening stage - Prelims marks are not added to the final merit.
Stage 2 - Main Exam
The Main exam has two papers. Paper 1 is objective (multiple-choice), 200 marks, 200 questions in 180 minutes (3 hours), with 1 mark per correct answer and a penalty of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer. It covers General Studies and Current Affairs, Mathematics and Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and Analytical Ability, English, Hindi and General Knowledge of Bihar. Paper 2 is a written (subjective) paper of 50 marks for 1 hour, covering Hindi essay, English essay, English precis and Hindi-to-English translation. You must score at least 30 percent in each paper. Based on Main exam marks, candidates up to 3 times the vacancies are called for the Physical test, category-wise on merit.
Stage 3 - Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates who qualify the Main exam are checked for height, chest and weight as per the physical standards above. This is a pass/fail check and carries no marks. The final merit list is prepared only on the Main written exam marks.
How to Apply for BPSSC SI 2026
The application is fully online through the official BPSSC website. There is no offline or postal form. Follow these steps carefully.
- Open the official BPSSC website and go to the "Bihar Police" tab, then click the link for Advt. No. 09/2026.
- Complete Part 1 - Registration: enter your name, nationality, mobile number, email ID, Bihar domicile, category, gender and date of birth, then pay the application fee online. Your registration ID and password are sent to your mobile and email.
- Log in with that ID and password and complete Part 2: fill in father's/husband's name, mother's name, address and educational details, and agree to the declaration.
- Upload a recent colour photo (white background, 15-25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif) and your signature in both English and Hindi (15-25 KB each).
- Check every detail using "Edit Details", then confirm and submit. After final submit you cannot edit the form.
- Save and print the final acknowledgement (with photo) on A4 paper for your records. There is no need to send it to the Commission.
The application fee is 100 rupees for all candidates and must be paid online (net banking, debit/credit card or UPI). Bank charges, if any, are borne by the candidate. One candidate can submit only one application, and one mobile number can be used for only one form.
