Indian Navy Agniveer (Apprentice) INET 2/2026 - Overview
The Indian Navy has invited online applications from unmarried male candidates for the Agniveer (Apprentice) 01/2027 and 02/2027 batches. This is a diploma-holder entry into the Indian Navy under the Agnipath scheme. The first step for both batches is a common written exam called INET (Indian Navy Entrance Test) 2/2026, which is being conducted with the SSC (Staff Selection Commission) as the exam partner. The online application window opened on 05 June 2026 and, after an extension, closed at 5:00 PM on 05 July 2026. A correction window is open on 06 July 2026 for candidates to fix details in their submitted forms.
Agniveers are enrolled for a fixed period of four years under the Navy Act 1957. This page explains, in simple words, who can apply, the fee, the pay, the exam pattern, and the full selection process, so you know exactly where you stand.
Which Batches and Trades
Applications are for two batches together - Agniveer (Apprentice) 01/2027 and 02/2027. The Navy will decide the trade-wise number of seats later, based on service need, so the notification does not fix a total vacancy figure. Recruitment is done for two streams:
| Stream | Eligible Diploma Fields (examples) |
|---|---|
| Engineering | Marine Engineering, Mechanical, Production/Automobile, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Power Plant, Mechatronics, Metallurgy, Instrumentation, and similar AICTE diplomas |
| Electrical | Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Instrumentation Technology, Electronics, Electrical and Electronics, and similar AICTE diplomas |
Separate INET exams are held for the Engineering stream and the Electrical stream.
Eligibility - Age and Qualification
Marital status: Only unmarried Indian male candidates can apply. Agniveers cannot marry during the full four-year tenure.
Education: You must have passed Class 10th (Matriculation) with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognised board, AND completed a three-year diploma from an AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) recognised polytechnic with at least 50% marks in aggregate, in one of the listed Engineering or Electrical diploma courses.
Age (date of birth): To apply for INET 2/2026, you must be born between 01 December 2004 and 31 October 2009 (both dates included). The batch you are finally eligible for depends on your exact date of birth:
| Batch | Date of Birth (both dates inclusive) |

| Agniveer (Apprentice) 01/2027 | 01 December 2004 to 31 May 2009 |
| Agniveer (Apprentice) 02/2027 | 01 May 2005 to 31 October 2009 |
Pay, Seva Nidhi and Benefits
Agniveers get a fixed monthly package that rises each year. The Seva Nidhi is a one-time lump sum paid at the end of the four years - it is built from 30% of your monthly package (which is set aside, not paid in hand) plus an equal matching amount from the Government. The table below shows the official figures from the notification.
| Year | Monthly Package | In-Hand (about 70%) | Set Aside to Corpus (30%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st Year | Rs 30,000 | Rs 21,000 | Rs 9,000 |
| 2nd Year | Rs 33,000 | Rs 23,100 | Rs 9,900 |
| 3rd Year | Rs 36,500 | Rs 25,550 | Rs 10,950 |
| 4th Year | Rs 40,000 | Rs 28,000 | Rs 12,000 |
On completing four years, an Agniveer receives a Seva Nidhi package of about Rs 5.02 lakh (your contribution plus the Government's matching share), which is exempt from income tax. In addition, risk and hardship, dress and travel allowances are paid. Agniveers also get non-contributory life insurance cover of Rs 48 lakh for the engagement period. There is no gratuity or pension for the four-year Agniveer tenure. On completion, up to 25% of each batch may be selected for further enrolment as regular sailors, based on merit and the Navy's needs.
