BPSSC Home Guard Company Commander Recruitment 2026 — Overview

The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) invites online applications for the post of Home Guard Company Commander, known in Hindi as "Gulm Samadeshak", in the Bihar Home Guard Service Cadre under the Home Department (Special Branch), Bihar. This drive is being conducted through Advertisement No. 08/2026. There are 65 posts in total, and selection is made through a written competitive exam followed by a physical test.

Vacancy Details (Category-Wise)

The 65 vacancies are divided among reserved and unreserved categories as per Bihar Government rules. The exact category-wise split from the official notice is shown below.

Note: As per the notification, 35 percent horizontal reservation is provided for women within each category, and 2 percent posts are reserved for grandchildren of freedom fighters. Men, women, and third-gender candidates can all apply.

Eligibility — Education and Age

Educational Qualification: You must hold a Bachelor's degree (graduation) in any subject from a recognised university, or an equivalent exam recognised by the Bihar State Government. This degree must be completed on or before 01 August 2025.

Age Limit (as on 01 August 2025): The minimum age is 20 years for all categories. The maximum age changes by category and gender, as shown below.

Age is calculated from the date of birth printed on your Matriculation (Class 10) certificate. Extra age relaxation is given to ex-servicemen and to existing Bihar government employees as per the rules mentioned in the official notice.

Pay Scale

The selected Company Commanders will be paid in Pay Level-6 of the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, as stated in the official advertisement. For the exact starting basic pay, allowances, and full pay structure, please refer to the official notification linked above.

Physical Standards

All candidates must meet the minimum physical standards. Height and chest do not carry marks, but candidates who do not meet the required standard are declared unsuccessful.

Women candidates of all categories must have a minimum weight of 48 kg. For male chest, a minimum 5 cm expansion is compulsory.

Selection Process

The recruitment is done in the following stages:

• Preliminary Exam: One paper of 200 marks with 100 multiple-choice questions, for 2 hours, covering General Knowledge and current affairs. Candidates scoring below 30 percent are rejected. Around 20 times the vacancies are shortlisted for the Main Exam.
• Main Written Exam: Two papers. Paper 1 is General Hindi (200 marks, qualifying only, minimum 30 percent needed). Paper 2 covers General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Maths and Mental Ability (200 marks, counted for merit).
• Physical Efficiency Test (PET): About 6 times the vacancies are called for the running, high jump, long jump, and shot-put tests. This stage is only pass or fail.
• Document Verification and Medical Exam.

Note: There is negative marking of 0.2 marks for each wrong answer in both written exam stages.
